Here's what our members think of AFP St. Louis...

Patty Arnold, CFRE
St. John's Mercy Foundation

AFP has been a consistent resource throughout my career. From local chapter luncheons to international conferences, I am always impressed with the level of professionalism of our members. By offering the unique opportunity to share and learn best practices from both local and international philanthropic leaders, we have advanced the profession of fundraising and increased the visibility of our organizations and our donors.

Our Code of Ethical Principles and Standards, coupled with the Donor's Bill of Rights, provides us the framework to practice our trade with the utmost level of integrity. Perhaps most importantly, AFP has given me the opportunity to foster meaningful relationships with fellow professionals, many of whom I now consider friends.

I truly appreciate my AFP membership as a seasoned professional in St. Louis. As a member for the past 21 years, I have used the services of AFP for a variety of reasons, including research on salaries, job placement for our staff, reading material on a number of major gift topics, leadership topics, board building and more.

The AFP organization is clearly the most accessible, convenient and reasonably priced resource for fundraising professionals for ongoing education. As for the local organization, it is quite invaluable for the professional in this business to have access to monthly meetings, conferences, mentoring - and just getting together with fellow professionals to hash out key issues challenging the field of advancement in these uncertain times.

Jim Weidman, CFRE

Looking back on a career in fundraising that spans more than 30 years, I can say with certainty that becoming a member of AFP (then NSFRE) on March 1, 1985, was one of the best decisions I ever made. AFP has worked so well for me because I became involved on day one.  Yes, you can attend meetings and learn a lot about our profession, but it is only when you join committees that the true networking begins and the value of membership increases exponentially.  For me, involvement on committees led to being a member of the Board and ultimately the President of the Board in both Columbus, Ohio, and St. Louis, which allowed me to serve at the national level, making contacts nationwide. Our profession is all about relationship building.

AFP is all about building relationships with other people who have chosen the same profession.  These people can be resources for any questions you might have as you continue to hone your skills in this great profession we have chosen.  When I moved from Columbus to St. Louis, the St. Louis Regional Chapter of AFP was the first organization I joined.  Once again it was the best introduction to philanthropy in St. Louis and instant relationship building with my peers in fundraising. AFP has been the most important factor for me in the development of my profession, and I firmly believe that if you become involved, it will be for you, as well.

AFP is an essential resource for all of us who believe in the importance of professional development. Having access to educational programs, as well as information and research on philanthropy and other pertinent topics, makes AFP membership a key component of any development professional's toolbox.
